Alberni Valley, British Columbia

Where healing meets the land.

A generational-scale vision for a world-class addiction and mental health treatment campus — integrating the best of science, AI, nutrition, light, sound, art, and nature, grounded in respectful partnership with First Nations communities.

The Vision

A new model for recovery, built from first principles.

The crisis of addiction and mental health demands more than incremental fixes. It calls for a fundamentally new approach — one that treats the whole person, honors the land they heal on, and builds a bridge back to meaningful life and work.

Confluence is a concept for a global flagship campus in the Alberni Valley: a place where evidence-informed clinical care meets the healing power of nature, community, culture, and purpose. Where science and technology serve human connection, not replace it. Where recovery includes not just treatment, but training, employment, and reintegration into a thriving community.

"Everything is connected — the land, the water, the people, the healing."

This is not a clinic. It is a way forward — designed to be replicable, measurable, and deeply rooted in place.

Six Pillars of Care

An integrative approach to whole-person healing.

Each pillar is evidence-informed, trauma-aware, and designed to work in concert with the others — because recovery is never one-dimensional.

Science & AI

Measurement-based care powered by AI: personalized treatment pathways, real-time outcome tracking, and predictive models that adapt to each person's recovery journey.

Nutrition & Metabolic Health

Food as medicine. Locally sourced, nutrient-dense meals designed by clinical nutritionists. Metabolic and gut-brain health as foundational to mental recovery.

Light & Sound Therapy

Circadian-optimized light environments, photobiomodulation, and sound healing — using frequency, rhythm, and light to regulate the nervous system and support deep rest.

Art & Expressive Therapy

Studios for ceramics, painting, music, and storytelling. Creative practice as a pathway to process trauma, rebuild identity, and discover agency.

Nature & the Elements

Ocean, lakes, forest, and mountains as therapeutic landscape. Wilderness therapy, cold-water immersion, forest bathing, and outdoor adventure as core modalities — not supplements.

Cultural Healing

Developed in respectful partnership with Nuu-chah-nulth communities, Elders, and knowledge keepers. Traditional practices, ceremony, language, and land-based healing as integral to recovery.

Architecture & Art

The built environment as therapy.

Architecture that doesn't shelter you from nature — it draws you into it. Raw, tactile materials. Light that moves through the day. Art that confronts, comforts, and transforms.

Art as Encounter

Powerful contemporary and traditional installations throughout the campus — art that meets you where you are.

The Land

The Alberni Valley

Nestled between the Beaufort Range and the Vancouver Island mountains, the Alberni Valley is defined by water — the deep saltwater inlet that reaches inland from the Pacific, the glacier-fed lakes, the rivers that connect them. It is a place of profound natural power, with a deep Indigenous history stretching back thousands of years.

This is not an accident of geography. The land itself is part of the treatment model — a setting where the nervous system can settle, where the body can remember what safety feels like, and where the elements become teachers.

Community Integration

Recovery includes purpose.

Treatment is the beginning. The goal is a life worth living — which means the campus is not a retreat from the world, but a bridge back into it.

Training & Skills Development

Vocational training programs in culinary arts, land stewardship, construction, technology, and the trades — building real, transferable skills.

Meaningful Employment

On-campus work opportunities — in the kitchen, gardens, workshops, and operations — that build confidence, routine, and financial literacy.

Living & Belonging

A therapeutic community model with graduated living arrangements — from intensive residential care to independent community housing with ongoing support.

Generational Vision

Built to be a global flagship.

This is a generational-scale investment in human recovery — designed to set a new standard for what addiction and mental health treatment can be, and to be replicated in communities across Canada and beyond.
